Fall Candle Care: How to Get the Most Out of Your Soy Candle" 🍂

As the days get shorter and the air turns crisp, there's nothing better than curling up with a beautifully scented soy candle. But are you getting the most out of every burn? At Oasis Candles, we hand-pour every candle with care, and we want yours to last as long as possible.

Here are our top candle care tips to keep your soy candle burning all season long.

The First Burn is Everything

The very first time you light your candle is the most important. Always allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the jar before blowing it out; this is called achieving a full melt pool. Skipping this step causes "tunnelling," where the candle burns straight down the middle and wastes wax on the sides.

Rule of thumb: burn your candle 1 hour for every inch of its diameter on the first burn.

Trim Your Wick Every Time

Before each burn, trim your wick to about 6mm (¼ inch). A long wick causes the flame to burn too hot, producing black soot and shortening the life of your candle. A simple wick trimmer makes this easy, or you can use scissors.

Know When to Stop

Stop burning your candle when there's about 1cm of wax remaining at the bottom. Burning past this point can cause the jar to overheat. The good news? You can repurpose the jar once it's done it makes a beautiful small planter or storage vessel.

Keep It Away from Drafts

Drafts from open windows, fans, or air vents cause uneven burning and excessive flickering. Place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from airflow for the cleanest, most even burn.

Store It Right

Between burns, keep the lid on your candle to protect the wax and preserve the fragrance. Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. UV light can fade the colour and weaken the scent over time.
